Knees Of Fury 33 Event Review


Another night of exciting fights put on by promoter, Ethan Shepp. From the amatuers to the professionals, all fighters gave it their all and gave fans an amazing show! The interstaters came over and fought hard but the SA boys showed they had what it took to mix it with the best in Aus. Stay tuned for the next installment of  Knees of Fury on September 16!

Northern Wrecking Crew vs Young Lions

Hayden Carr  def  Josh Shepperton via TKO 1st Round (Josh fell awkward in the grapple and dislocated his shoulder)

Matt Routley def Mick Waterman via Un2nd round TKO

Southside Muay Thai vs Riddlers

Lex Hanegraaf def Brendan Durasille via 4th round TKO

The fight started of slow with boys feeling each other out but once the second round begun it was all one way traffic in favour of Lex. Brendan was being manhandled and overwhelmed and was put on rubber legs in the 4th round sending him down for an 8 count and seeing the fight called off.

 

Fight 8

Rikers vs Southern Thaiboxing

Billy Saunders def Josh Frew via 3rd round TKO

The opening round saw both boys open up strong throwing solid hands but it was Josh who drew the short straw getting hit by a hard overhand sending him down for an 8 count in the opening minute. The second was again fast paced with Josh landing some well timed rib kicks and straight rights and Billy look for the overhand to land yet again but Josh kept a tight defence and neither boy took a backwards step. The final round saw Billy start very strong dropping Josh with punches 3 times and ending the fight!

 

Fight 9

The Thaiboxing Pit vs Steve Peach

Roy Wills def Anthony Cox via Split points decision

The entire fight saw Anthony attacking and Roy using good evasive skills and counter legs kicks to rack up the points to take home the win. A very exciting and technical fight!

 

Fight 10

Young Lions vs Southern Thaiboxing

Jason Altman def Guy Robbo via Unan points decision

A close, fast paced first round ensured that this was going to be an exciting fight but as the second round started Guy seemed as if he had lost confidence causing Jason to take control of the fight overpowering Guy and landing the more effective blows. Guy was overwhelmed in the third round and was giving a standing 8 count.

 

Fight 11

Riddlers def Rikers

Beau St Quintin def Theo Giannopoulis via Unan points decision

A close fight with both boys working good combos and strong counters until the last round where Beau seemed to find his stride, working some strong combos he managed to catch Theo with an overhand right sending him to the cavas for an 8 count which secured him the win.

 

Fight 12

Riddlers vs Southside Muay Thai

Ruan De Pessis def Tom Boyle via 1st round KO

Tom started the fight much faster than his taller opponent and was working some good hand combinations. Midway through the first round the boys grappled up and Ruan used his height to get dominance and land a solid right elbow putting Toms lights out and finishing the fight.

 

Fight 13 – 79kg WMC SA STATE TITLE

Willunga Kickboxing vs Northern Wrecking Crew

Steve Behan def Josiah Schutz via 4th round TKO

A complete slugfest, Steve was the more aggresive of the two and was landing some thunderous blows which resulted in Josiah being 8 counted in rounds 1, 3 and 4 before the fight was finally called off.

Fight 14

Rikers vs Riddlers

Charlie Chau def Jimmy McAllister via 3rd round KO

First round was a feeling out round with Charlie showing more skill and power than Jimmy. The rest of the fight was Charlie attacking while Jimmy tried to counter kicks that showed no effect on Charlie. In the third round Charlie was opening up with the heavy hands catching Jimmy with a solid straight right knocking Jimmy out on his feet.

 

Fight 15 – SEMI MAIN EVENT

Riker vs The Thaiboxing Pit

Kym Johnson def Toby Smith via Unan points decision

This fight was a battle of technique, both boys were attacking and countering well but Kym seemed to be the more aggressive of the two. The second saw both boys open up with the elbows and resulted in both boys being cut open. Toby was hit with a solid spinning back elbow followed by a push/sweep and ended up in the referee giving Toby an undeserved 8 count (which was disputed and reversed on the score cards at the end of the round) Toby started to find his stride in the 3rd and opened up a lot more aggressive landing some great punch, knee combos. Both boys came out strong in the 4th but it was Kym who was landing the better shots and kept Toby away with osme well timed push kicks and counter leg kicks. The 5th round was much like the forth with neither boy taking a backwards step, this fight had everyone in suspence.

 

Fight 16 – MAIN EVENT

Axis Muay Thai vs Team Ultimate

Gary Williams def Maseh  via Unan points decision

The fight started  with Gary using some strong kicks to keep the distance while it was obvious Maseh wanted the hightlight reel right overhand knockout. Gary landed a good head kick in the second, clearly stunning Maseh but he weathered through the storm and finish the round. The rest of the fight was much of the same, Maseh coming strong but struggling to land anything clean while Gary work the leg and body kicks perfectly. In the dying seconds of the 5th round Gary landed another solid head kick followed by a straight right that put Maseh down for the 8 count, lucky for him he was saved by the bell and the fight was over!
